Pozo Colorado’s Pictures

Pozo Colorado is a town in Paraguay, located in the department of Presidente Hayes. The name translates from Spanish to “Red Well.”

The town has a long history, with the first references dating back to the late 1890s. It was originally an Enxet village called yexwase’ yamelkyet. After the Chaco War, it became primarily a military base, surrounded by ranches whose owners lived mainly in the capital city of Asunción.

As the Ruta Transchaco highway was built, entrepreneurs arrived and created a small civilian enclave with businesses.

Today, Pozo Colorado is a thriving small town with a population of around 2,135 (according to a 2008 estimate). It is known for having more gas stations than any other small town in Paraguay.

The town is also an important center for the region’s livestock industry and processes a major portion of the country’s beef production.
